Hollowayville, Illinois

Settled in 1846 by German Immigrants, this is one of the earliest settlements in Bureau County.

There is a valley between Hollowayville and Princeton that was once the site of numerous coal mines. The Coal Hollow marker (you might see along the road) and a few houses are all that is left from what was of 50 homes, a church, a store. The mines supplied many nearby towns with coal after the civil war.
