In 1874 two railroads came together and the village of Bureau Junctioncommonly known as Bureau, was born . The silent rooms of an abandoned depot can still hear trains pass by.
Bureau Junction was the point where the Rock Island Line to Peoria spilt. Tracks west and south of Bureau are operated by Iowa Interstate, while tracks east to Chicago were formerly operated by CSX but currently leased to Iowa Interstate.
